I left work hours ago. Part of my mind didn't.

The laptop closed at six.

There is a different room around you now. Different light. Different sounds.

And still, part of the day is somehow on. An open question from this afternoon. A reply you have not written. A decision that did not get made.

The body left. The mind did not get the same memo.

Stopping work is not the same as leaving it.

Closing a laptop is a physical act. Leaving a day is a psychological one.

Without a moment that explicitly says this is over now, the mind keeps the day slightly active, in case it is needed.

It does not feel like working. It feels like thinking. But it is still the day, running quietly underneath.

The transition that no one teaches.

Most people have rituals for beginning the day. Very few have one for leaving it.

Closure is not delivered by stopping. It is something the mind has to be quietly allowed to do.
